What changes when we look closer?
What if some of the Bible passages we think we know best… aren’t quite saying what we’ve always been told they’re saying?
This fall, we’re starting a different kind of Bible study.
We’re going to take familiar passages and read them again... putting them back into their historical and cultural context, asking new questions, and being willing to challenge some of the interpretations we may have inherited along the way.
We’ll be guided by Walter Wink’s Jesus and Nonviolence: A Third Way, along with Scripture, short videos, and plenty of conversation. Wink’s understanding of Jesus, power, resistance, and nonviolence can completely change the way we hear some very familiar words. “Turn the other cheek,” for example, looks remarkably different when we understand the world in which Jesus actually said it.
Participants should purchase a copy of Jesus and Nonviolence: A Third Way by Walter Wink.
This isn’t about finding the one “right” answer. Questions are welcome. Doubt is welcome. Curiosity is absolutely welcome.
Because context doesn’t make Scripture less powerful. Sometimes it makes it far more radical.

You don’t need to know the right words. You don’t have to pray out loud. You don’t need to belong to Trinity... or to any church. Come with your prayers, your worries, your gratitude, your questions, your hopes… or simply come as you are.
This is a place to be still.
A place to be together.
A place to pray.

Seriously. Our church sits on the corner of Grim Avenue and Thorn Street... what else are we supposed to do?!
This Halloween, make Trinity one of your trick-or-treating stops and come experience one of our favorite nights of the year!
TRICK-OR-TREAT ON THE CORNER OF GRIM & THORN
Grab some candy, spin the candy wheel, strike a pose at our Halloween photo backdrops, and see what other spooky little surprises you find along the way.
But whatever you do...
COME INSIDE.
Because that's where things get REALLY fun.
Step inside our 100+ year-old sanctuary, glowing in the light of our candelabras, for the...
SONATA SPOOKTACULAR!
Our Music Director, Luisa, will be in costume and at the organ, filling the sanctuary with wonderfully spooky Halloween music while vintage black-and-white spooky movies flicker across the wall.
And you're invited to EXPLORE.
Climb the stairs to the balcony (parental supervision for Littles, please!) and see the sanctuary from above. Find a seat and listen to the organ. Watch a little of the movie. Warm up. Cool down. Use the restroom. Catch your breath before the next round of trick-or-treating.
Stay five minutes. Stay half an hour. Come and go whenever you want.
No program. No pressure. Just a really cool old church opening its doors to the neighborhood for Halloween.

Enjoy a weekend of worship, fellowship, family fun and meaningful moments together as we grow closer to God and one another!
Families are welcome to arrive between 4-6pm on Friday the 5th. We will kick off our weekend with a warm and welcoming dinner at 6:30pm. We hope to see YOUR family join us!
